The extraordinary Brazilian pianist Nelson Freire makes his long-awaited Mostly Mozart debut, performing Beethoven’s landmark Fourth Piano Concerto, an intimate work infused with tranquility and lyricism. The program begins with Stravinsky’s Symphony in C, a work both distinctly modern and evocative of Mozart’s 18th-century textures and forms.

Performances begin promptly at their scheduled time. There is no late seating.
For Avery Fisher Hall stage seating, all patrons must be seated by 7:55.
The performances are approximately one hour and 35 minutes long, with one intermission.
On August 19, Nelson Freire played Sgambati's arrangement Mélodie de Gluck, from Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, and Villa-Lobos's Lenda do Caboclo as encores.
On August 20, Nelson Freire played Sgambati's arrangement Mélodie de Gluck, from Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice; Villa-Lobos's O ginête de Pierrozinho (“Little Pierrot’s Horse”), from Carnaval das crianças brasileiras; and Villa-Lobos's Lenda do Caboclo as encores.
